Unity and Sacred Values

Writer: Cristallin ToullecCristallin Toullec

There was a debate between président Trump and Zelensky few days ago, which created a wave of controversy.

This very polarized debate around Ukraine is making me think about the pandemic story and the divide that we all witnessed and experienced between people.

The danger of selected information is that it could lead us astray from the truth. In the same way, the danger of strong emotions, is that they could lead us astray from the truth too.

Since we cannot trust blindly authorities anymore, we must at least have simple criteria to discern the path of the truth despite the lack of knowledge we have on those complex issues.

In my view, truth unites. The path of the truth is a path that brings more and more unity between each other.

When I don’t feel unity, harmony, I know something is missing in my understanding and it pushes me to reflect more.

Finding this unity is often difficult and requires a lot of commitment, letting go of false beliefs and love but what else can we do if we want to live together in peace on this beautiful planet?!

May the present and future divides that may come, become opportunities to dig deeper within and find the source, the truth that unites. And may we find like minded people willing to do that together!

To better understand how to find this unity within, confronted with conflict, two aspects could be quite useful to think about:

1-As humans, unity or truth is a perception of reality, it involves our consciousness. It is not a fact. It cannot be shared but must be experienced. This is the freedom (free will) given to humans to search for truth or not; to do it this way or that way.

it is therfore pointless to spend significant amount of energy trying to make someone understand what you perceive to be the truth. The truth is a STATE of unity. We can only create the best environment possible for that state to be experienced.

2-To be engaged in life we must be in contact with a drive, an inspiration, a passion, a force that pushes us forward.

This drive is linked to who we are specifically as individual. It is unique to us in the same way as our purpose is. I call it our sacred value, or an ensemble of values constituting our sense of the sacred.

This sacred value manifests itself in our life as behavior, strategy, mindset, competence. What must be understood is that it can oppose other sacred values and specifically when applied in concrete situations. For example the opposed sacred values of determination and letting go.

Therefore, being aware of what sacred value drives us will help explain why, for us, certain people, situations, activities are very aligned, comfortable, harmonious and others are not at all.

CONCLUSION

When dealing with conflict, it is very precious to know that we are generally not talking about The Truth but our personal perception of it based on our inner experience. That experience is linked to our degree of consciousness and our personality type, our unique way to experience and engage in life driven by our sacred value.

When those two principles are named (consciousness and typologies), it helps remind everyone to discover what is the sacred value they defend in the situation and to take responsibility of their own emotional states instead of projecting it on others.

Because we need all the sacred values to live a happy life, when the different sacred values are identified, it is much easier to acknowledge their value and those defending them. And then, to see in the specific situation, which value will be the most important to bring unity and the role of the other ones as well.

The theory is nice; to practice is so much nicer! How joyful it is to discover unity in confrontational situation! Try it out! What is the sacred value I am defending all the time?!
